Little is known about this ruined castle except that is belonged to the Fitzpatricks. It is a fine example of a late 16th century tower house with a bartizan on the east angle and machicolation on the north-west and southwest walls. It is five storeys high with a slight base-batter and is impressively defended as well as being well appointed and having finely dressed stonework. There are mural passages in the north-west wall at first and second-floor level and garderobes and fireplaces at second and third floor.
